They look like Mendotas or Davis Cal Kings. I have both and have been breeding the Mendotas for a couple of years. I got my Davis Cal Kings from Rick Staub.

Nice snakes!

Have you bred your Davis CA kings, yet? They are interesting snakes. I was wondering how big they get and if any would be available in the future. We need to get together some day TC

Not yet, they should be big enough in '06

I'm going to trim down my collection after the new year.

Now that we are getting cold here in the High Country of Arizona I can only think of warm herping days this spring!

Give me a buzz when you head out this way.

I'm dreamin' of spring in AZ too, only I don't live there, yet, haha. I definitely know about the cold and snow here in n. MI though.

I have a bunch of little babies I'm trying to get through the winter, but probably not near as many as you. I'm trimming down also, but probably will keep a few kings once I'm established in AZ. They just make such great pets I can't ignore them.

Actually, I'm researching size at the moment, along with the genetics in Cal kings. I assume the Davis kings are about as small as they come. Are normal Cals bt. 4 and 5 ft, or do they get even larger? Thanks.

Have a great holiday season....TC.

I would say that most cal kings do not get to 5 ft. Four feet is a good size adult. There are bigger ones though, but not the norm. I'm not sure how big the Davis cals get since mine aren't that big yet. My Mendotas are pretty good size, but nothing like my Newports I used to have. They were huge and weighed over 1300 grams the last time I weighed them. Some cal kings grow faster than others that's for sure.

Thanks, Kerby. That helps me understand the group better. I don't have very much room, so I tend to get the smallest morphs of a species. I sure won't be getting those Newport monsters, heheh I want to work with Cal kings, but I'm not sure which form. I like working with the genetics too, so may opt for something like the Davis king. I really like the El Dorado blonde morph too, but can't find anyone who has those. Then again, we have lots of kings in AZ too. Ya never know.

Have a great Christmas. I'll be back next week from the holiday. TC.

Reason why I ask is that they look like Mendotas, which are a probable source of the Labrynth phase that I had a few years ago. It had been inbred for its colors - at great price. I exchanged it for a more healthy specimen and was much happier.

I realize that mine was likely much more inbred than most ever could be, but just curious:

Do yours exhibit normal health and behavior? Or are they poor stalkers who often miss their prey??

They are great looking animals. I also have some from Rick I have 1.1 02s and 1.1 04s. I cant wait to breed them.I also have to wait another long year to breed my hypo cal kings from Gerald Merker
