Nightime lighting

jaybfresh Dec 22, 2004 02:36 PM

Hey all...just recently got back into frogs, and set up a pretty nice 30 gallon for a WTF. I don't need any extra nighttime heat, but obviously I want some type of nightime light to watch the frog...he seems to be bothered by red light (stays asleep/inactive), and low wattage black lights don't provide enough light at all. So does anyone have ideas for non-heat nighttime lighting?

I have a strip black light like you would get at spencer's but heard they give off harmful rays...but if its put behind glass would it filter out any bad rays?

Hey there I have Red Eyes and after several different experiments I ended up building my on l.e.d lights. I got all the parts at radio shack for about $25. I used 3 blue l.e.d.'s for a 3' long tank, it looks very cool no heat.
I also tried a black light but I was not happy with the way it looked.

TRhats very odd that a red light would bother him

yea, i don't know why red light would bother him, althoguh the bulb does give off a lot of light for a 20 watt, so maybe some white light comes through too?

the LED idea sounds cool, I might try something like that
