CHANNEL NEWS ASIA (Singapore) 22 December 04 Exotic animals seized by Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (Sharon Tong)
Singapore : Snakes, chameleons and scorpions -- these animals are not usually found in an urban jungle like Singapore.
But 26 of such exotic animals were found right in the HDB heartlands of Singapore Tuesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority raided a flat in Ang Mo Kio and found a 29-year-old chef living there, along with animals like a slow loris, four bearded dragons and even a frilled necked lizard.
Just a day earlier, the AVA raided another flat in Serangoon Avenue 1 and found 11 exotic animals being kept there.
The owner, a 30-year-old fruit stall assistant, had with him animals like a Leopard gecko, four tarantulas and a carpet python.
The animals have been taken to the Singapore zoo and the two men are under investigation.
If found guilty, they can be jailed or fined.
The AVA has reminded the public that it is illegal to import, buy and keep wild or exotic animals as pets in Singapore
