Captured Brown Snake Dec 7

wombat Dec 22, 2004 11:11 PM

Of the two brown snakes I caught Dec 7th, one seems to have suffered some lacerations/injuries from being raked up- I consulted a friend who's a vet and slathered some Neosporin on it. It has a couple of obvious cuts, but also has some other bumps under it's skin- are there any parasites that can get under the scales and make lumps?

After handling I thought it would be skittish, but I offered worms and it snarfed down 2 aggressively- always a good sign. It's funny to have a snake so small it has a real battle to overcome a worm! These guys are really cute, they hide under leaves or whatever and raise their heads well above the surroundings like little periscopes.

The healthier of the two snakes hasn't eaten yet (15 days now, but it still has good weight) it appears interested in movement, though, so it will all probably work out. I've offered wax worms, worms and also small crickets (I know, the crickets are a long shot).

Michael-

Temps from 15-35 last weeks, not many slugs around- found a couple but they are a little big for the brown's, I put them in with the worm snake, who ignored them, every once in a while when I mist they will come out and cruise around happily, so I guess I can claim I'm raising 0.0.0.2 slugs, well, however one designates hermaphroditic invertebrate species!!!

Merry holidays!
