Two Res questions

SnowWhite22 Dec 23, 2004 03:17 AM

Is it okay to leave the basking light and the UVB light on for about 48 hours? I am going out of town for two days, and while somebody will be coming in to feed my 3 RES turtles once while I am gone, no one will be turning the light on or off. I want to leave it on for the time I am gone but don't want to overexpose them or anything.

Also, how can I find a good vet for my little guys? Most of the vets I have found are strictly domestic animals (dogs, cats, etc). I live in the LA area. If anyone knows one, that would be great. My little guys are doing well but I want to get them checked out, just in case.
Thanks

Well, they will certainly survive for two days with the lights on. When my son was born my husband never turned the tank lights on, so my turtles spent 3 days in the dark with no food, and they suffered no ill effects. If you are really worried you could buy a 3 dollar timer that will turn the light on and off automatically.

the timers are GREAT... i use them EVERYDAY and they haven't let me down yet! the only thing i do find is that the one i have tends to lose time after a few months, but ever few months i just reset the timer (whcih only takes a few minutes) and it's good for another 4 or 5 months!

Just put everything on timers so then no one has to worry about turning lights on or off.

Go here http://nytts.org/nytts/helpnet.htm#CA to find a vet.
