Leopard gecko.... toys?

gurnham4 Dec 23, 2004 03:39 AM

Anyone know of anything I can get my little guy/girls for christmas that could stimulate them allow them to do alittle more. I don't know, life in a cage seems boring, but maybe they don't know life is boring and maybe they see it as a great fun exciting world. I have things for them to climb on below is my old 15 gallon set-up, the two geckos that were in that set-up were moved to a 40 and have the same toys in there. So am I limited to like sticks and hides ro has anyone here been creative and maybe made something?

Well I had made a new hide for Kalypso out of an old butter dish. She likes to climb on top of it and then jump off of it.

I was thinking as for toys, maybe like a little ball they could push around? We have some for our parrots. Maybe even a little Hot Wheels car they could push around. Be creative. As long as there is no way they can choke on it, or it can make them sick then I say find whatever you'd wanna play with if you were a gecko and see if they like it.

To be honest I think any sort of toy you get for them would only scare them. They seem to love tunnels and caves. You could build them something like a maze, they would probably like that. My leos absolutely LOVE their reptile dens, but all they do is sleep in them. I don't think leos are like birds at all when it comes to needing stimulation. I know we all like watching them roam around and "play", but I think the calmer they are in their settings the more comfortable they are. Your leos are probably not bored, just relaxed. Think about all of the top breeder out their. Their loes are happy in nothing more than a bin with the necessities.

Climbling and exploring is what they do for fun. actually, your setup looks like a lot of fun already!! two levels that is great, i need to do that.

and anyone who thinks all leos do is lay around should have a peek at them when the lights go out. they wake up and cruise around, covering every inch of their enclosure and if its small they just go round and round. give them room!

as for toys, how bout hiding small dishes of mealworms (or waxworms!) around the enclosure. i bet a leo would think that was the best christmas present.
