i read in books from anywhere from 10 to about 14 ft. maybe bigger. i seen one in real life and they are amazing looking monitors. but some can be nasty this store i went in to the guy was telling me that if you go to put you hand in there is goes right for you hand. but about 10 14 ft hope this helps
i heard that out in the wild the natives have discribed them to be 40 ft. long but i don't know about that. i don't thank God would let something that aggressive get that long and let it live on land and be that close to people.
please realize that croc monitors are mostly tail .....and please note that they are not for a beginner ......theyre highly intelligent and are unpridictable so ...i would gain some experience first before taking the plunge better yet talk to some of the croc keepers in the forum ....theyll give ya some good ole stories.
any body got any more info
thanks
jake
what kind of experience do i need?
i nice one she is about 7 8 ft but really nice colors, if you live on li. they could help you alot or go on there web site and ask them they are on kingsnake also. hope this helps
thanks but i live in ala. and 7 to 8 ft. is way to big for me to start with.
ha ha ha ha ha ha what experience do you need? dude i would do a check here first ....talk to the keepers of varanus salvadorii here theyll tell you what kind of experience you need. youll need to gain experience in keeping monitors first before getting into them ......because if you get bit by one it could be your fingers paying for your lack of experience.
food for thought
i have had my share of lizards in my life. i have had 2 niles a sav. and a black roughneck. i also frillies which i am trying too breed. but i do realize that crocs. have a vary short temper and get vary large i just did not know exactly how big. thats why i asked how big thay got instead of asking how much they are.

you can try to feed him/her 1 or 2 adult mice very other day. you can also feed him bull frogs. NOT TOADS!!!!!!OR TREE FROGS!!!! they will kill it in a very VARY short time. they also love anoles. but make sure you collect your food from clean places.

unfortunately he got mouth rot and got paralyzed and quit eating and i had to put him down.but i will try to find a good pic. and post it. i hope you have more luck with yours!! he was 20in. and i would feed him 1 to 2 mice every other day and a lizard every now and then. good luck.
If you go by native legends, nonexistant European explorers, tourists that never got the pic taken before it ran away, hunters that claim 50ft acacondas etc then they say the size is up to 16ft plus, but the official size they can reach or have been known to reach is 8ft 4 inches as a male (Ask Jody P about his old male). They are mostly tail as a matter of fact as adults are known to be 225%- 250% of their body length is tail length. They are long thin tree dwellers with kind of long sharp hollow teeth.
.
bunnies for their meals. A male Salvadorii can reach a total lenght of twelve foot and more, females seven to nine foot including tail. These animals require enclosures that are 10'x10'x10' (bedroom sized). And yes they are extremely tempermental and not for the faint of heart.
If you have less than five years of constant monitor expierience my suggestion to you is don't get one. I have now owned two and have gotten very lucky that they were nicely tempered animals. But they are extremely smart. Problem solving smart. These guys are modern day Velocoraptors. They have bone crushing jaws, razor sharp teeth that mother nature has designed to cut through flesh and still hold it's prey, and very strong sharp claws that are used to climb trees and to eat with. Imagine that dropping down from a branch on top of you.
If I have scared or made you think twice about getting one, Good! That is exactly what I wanted to do but please don't get me wrong. I'm a huge advocate for this species as they are my favorite. Great people such as yourself buy these gorgeous creatures not realizing the dangers and risks and when they do (90% of the time its the hard way) the animal is dumped or euthanised. I do apologize if this sounds bad, especially on a first meeting. Good luck on your next monitor adventure!!! They are wonderful creatures, cherished and loved all over this world.
Merry Christmas too,
Christine
