Lampropeltis mexicana ssp. in my collection

snakes Dec 23, 2004 02:43 PM

Hi!

here is a part of my current collection (more pics comming soon).
All of these snakes are imported to Poland (where I live) - none of them was bred here.

Lampropeltis mexicana mexicana:

Lampropeltis mexicana greeri:

Lampropeltis mexicana greeri, "low band count" (may have some thayeri influence):

Lampropeltis mexicana thayeri, "milksnake phase":

Lampropeltis mexicana thayeri, "leonis phase":

These pics unfortunatelly don't do all justice to snakes. The last leonis for example, in real life has some greenish cast - looking really uncommon.

Black and peach phase thayeri are comming next year from my friend in Germany

Best regards and Mery Christmass for all.
Lukasz

Awesome mexicana Lukasz! Your thayeri resemble wild snakes much more than the line bred thayeri that are so popular in the states right now. Have a Merry Xmas.

I am glad to see some other Mexicana species on this forum than mine and a few others. I think their variability surpasses most common kings, especially Thayeri. With Thayeri you do not need breeders that are homozygous for a certain morph or heterozygous or double het for other morphs. All you need are "normal" Thayeri kings to produce a clutch of offprings where no two snakes resemble one another. Hatchlings could hatch out orange, yellow, tan, grey, white, buckskin, black or peach with red saddles that may or maynot be outlined with black. The saddles themselves can have another color in them creating a Thayeri with 4 different colors on it.
Sorry to ramble.

Why do you think one of your Greeri has Thayeri influence? Where was it purchased?
Very nice snakes,

I'm so jealous. I'm mostly content with my Mexican Black, and happy to not have any high-elevation issues to deal with, but from time to time I really want a Mexican King, any one of several phases.

They are such uncommon gems - among the most striking & beautiful of all snakes.
