WONDERFUL NEWS.......kinda

RedQuake Jul 03, 2003 10:12 AM

I while back i posted that my gecko had ingested some sand, stopped eating and drinking. I put him into a smaller quarentine tank where he pooped out the sand and began eating and drinking again. Over the following couple weeks he would eat, then stop for a few days, then eat a cricket then not take any.......so i started him on a supplement by syringe and proceded to take him to the vet for a fecal test. I just found out the test is NEGATIVE for everything WOOHOO!!!!! BUT this doesn't explain why he isn't eating so my vet suggested that we start him on some antibiotics and see what happens. I've had him since March and he's still very thin and small. Last nite he was out drinking and a little while ago i saw him go after a cricket (but he missed) so i'm going to try hand feeding the cricket. I'll also bowl feed the crickets to him thus removing their hopping legs so they are easier to catch like i did before. He still won't touch the mealworms.

Now i have a question...after switching him to the other tank he did get worse...its a 10gal and has all the neccessary basics. Could he be misrable in there having spent most of his time in a 20gal tank? I've redone the tank with textured ceramic tiles and all his original caves etc. are in the same places.
As per another post explaining what to check before a vet visit, the temps are good and the other things check out so we are kinda stumped!
Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts? Any help is very much appreciated

Leo just ate a few crickets on his own and it was great watching him run around to get them. These were larger crickets....maybe a larger target is what he needed. We'll see if this eating spree keeps up

Thankyou to all who replied. I came home from work tonight and found lots of poop as well as 2 regurgitated crickets in the same pile. I'm thinking he over did it a bit....ate to much to quick. At least i'm hoping thats all it is......this is how i noticed things weren't right in the first place. I'm going to pick up the antibiotic tomorrow so i'll talk to the vet again. In the mean time i'm going to feed him only 1-2 crickets at a time.

Thanks again
