anyone know about VA laws??

Hi,

I just got a couple of sliders about a week ago, and at one pet store was told that they were illegal in VA, however I've yet to find the law, and have run into some dispute on it, for instance that it's only sliders under 4" that are not allowed. I'd like to eventually build an outdoor pond at the house I am purchasing and put them in it, but. At anyrate if anyone knows what the law is, or where I can find more info on it, I'd appreciate it.

the 4 inch law states that PEtstores MAY NOT SELL THEM but you may own them as pets...

It is illegal in the US to SELL a turtle under 4", but OK in most places and in VA to OWN one. VA considers red-eared sliders (RES) to be naturalized, so you are allowed to own up to 5 (I think) without a permit. You must have a permit to SELL a native turtle, and since VA consideres RES naturalized, that includes RES.
