Is this snake an Eastern?

Leah C Jul 03, 2003 10:34 AM

When I got him I was told he's a Florida Blue.. He'll be a year old tomorrow, you can't really see it in the picture but he's a very bright blue/green colour, so I guess he must be?

Florida blues are just a color variatin of the eastern garters

I know, but what I meant was is he a Florida blue eastern? Or another species altogether (wandering, etc..)

The florida blues are eastern garters, they are just a blue colored morph from the florida area...

Yes, thank you. But is he an Eastern?

He looks like a florida blue Garter, which is a variation of Eastern Garter Snae so yea, he is an eastern.

I'm not so sure that this is an Eastern Garter. The black bars on the lips, the row of spots below the lateral stripes, and the lateral stripes on scale rows 3 and 4 (?) all say Plains Garter to me. Like Eastern Garters, Plains Garters can have a greenish or bluish tinge. michaelb
