to have a rat and a ball python live together in a habitat as long as it's large enough to comfortably support them both? and what kind of habitat do rats prefer? green with leaves and vines and moist with moss substrate or dry with sand and desert like or does it even matter as long as the basic needs are provided(lights, water, hiding, etc)?

No the care for each species is different.
If you already have a rat snake and a ball python you should also already know their husbandry needs.

Ok, that would now lead us to the next question.
What species of rat snake?
There are many different species and the care can vary.

The easiest of the rats to take care of.Keep the temps between 65 to 80 and you shouldnt have any problems.Just use undertank heat and you will be fine.Keeping a ball python at those temps would make it sick, regurge,go off feed, lung snot, etc ,etc. The only time I put anything together is for breeding or maybe pics...Paul

read up on north american rat snake care. it's all fairly similar.

so um... how do we do research? we READ THE CARE SHEETS FOR THAT SPECIES!! DO A SEARCH!! READ ALL YOU CAN, THEN READ SOME MORE!!! Never take just one care sheet as a bible on how to care for one species. Then we learn from each other on experiences.

65 is a litle low for a black rat... thats a decent brumation tempterature but not much else.

but yeah, learn everything you will need to know before you get a new snake in. got a question? ask before you make the mistake.
