hi i have a mexican male, but he is only 4 inches in shell length.i think it might not breed untill about 6 inches, but iam not sure.i got him from john richards.he does not look extremely different from my other commons, but the head is slightly smaller and he likes higher water temp.

your right they do look very similar to commons. mine seem to be a little lighter color and maybe a littler more seration to the shell. would you be interested in selling your male or buying/trading for mine. ive never seen mexican snappers before til a friend of mine got them from someone in california as ally snaps, dont ask me.. my smaller common male is trying to breed w/ them and i just hate having them without a mate. i did have a male but unfortunately the first night i had them he escaped and is now somewhere in the stream in front of my house. should make for interesting future localle. they do deem to like the warmer temps but do seem to bee rather cold hardy. i had them outside when it started dipping into the 20s before i brought them in.

The Mexican Snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina rossignoni) is a subspecies, and the husbandry is the same as for all common snapping turtle subspecies.
