Need some business/breeding advice.

TheDrew1 Dec 23, 2004 09:02 PM

Hi ive been breeding my veileds for a couple months now but i really want to transition into the panther business, due to the fact that i love panthers, the business is bigger, and you can make a lot more money. Right now i only have 2.1 pair of veileds with one clutch incubating. Im trying to figure out how i can switch into the panther business and afford it. Should i sell all my veileds and get a panther pair? Or should i keep my veileds and save for panthers and then have a wider range of business? Also i tried to invest in some leopard geckos but id rather focus in on just chameleons so ill probably sell those. I kinda forgot what iwas going to say lol (my mind went blank) so and business advice would be mucho helpful.

Happy holidays
Andrew

I would keep the Veileds, and the Leopards. Even buy another female so that you have two pair of Veileds. The first thing that you mentioned "because I love them" is always what you want to keep first in your mind. Don't strive for a business selling Chameleons to make money. It won't ever happen, and it shouldn't.

Consider this situation: You have a table at a Reptile Show with your Panther Chameleons. Lots of people come by looking at your Panthers and start howling "I want one!! Those guys are incredible!" Are you going to sell one of the babies that you raised up for a few months? Most of the time when they find out the price they'll keep moving, but there is always the richer ones that have to have everything. If you love your Chameleons you'll do anything to talk them out of the sale because they don't have the knowledge to keep them alive for very long.

There is a lot of questions like the above that you need to answer before rushing into selling Chameleons. If the clutch of Veileds you are incubating hatches, you'll understand more. Just my two cents. Good luck. Mark.
