BOGUS Christmas "Sales"

clownloach Dec 23, 2004 09:05 PM

Hi guys, this is a friendly post. But why do most of all the sellers in the classifieds have Christmas sales, when sales should mean "cheaper" than the week before. And the prices are either the same or even more higher on the boas. Which jackass is going to sign into the classifieds and say this is a great deal just because it says "Christmas Sale"? Not for nothing, alot of dishonesty seems to be growing among sellers of boas. But then again, I don't want to take money out of anyone's pockets. Lets try to be honest and stop the bull[bleep], and maybe people won't laugh at people who have snakes.

They tell so many lies they cant remember the last one they told, the classifieds are like reading the sunday comics IMO,seldom will anyone find a "good deal"

Over half of my collection is the result of carefully monitoring the classifieds for good deals and jumping on them when they appear. The really good deals do not stay up for long. I once witnessed an anery boa that was simply the most beautiful anery I have ever seen for sale at $300. I emailed the seller right away but he got his asking price within minutes posting the ad.

While there hasn't been too many good deals lately, weather this time of year really slows things up with regards to shipping anyway. So even if someone wants to move animals out of inventory...they can only sell and then sit on them while waiting for warmer weather. However, what I have noticed lately is an abundant amount of males available in almost all classified sections across ks.com. Furthermore, I'll agree that prices haven't gone down much for some of these breeder 'holiday sales' this season but if you see something that interests you simply email the seller and make an offer...worse case scenario they say no and you both move on.

I only find the classifieds more rewarding if I have the time to follow them closely and use restraint and patience to wait for the right deal. I get more disappointed anymore when I go to herp shows and see animals for sale at prices at or above what I see online. In fact, I don't even know why i bother with herp shows since I have had a TON of success buying online over the past 2 years.

I agree Jason, if you have the time and energy to monitor the classifieds, you can filter through the BS and through discussion, attending shows, reading other un-named websites, you can still find good deals out there on awesome animals. Being impulsive with unknown venders can be a recipe for disaster especially when the deal seems to good to be true, but if you know the person, or know people that have had successful deals with him or her, then in my opion there are good deals on great animals to be had.

On the topic of the 'holdback' yes I agree people do through the term around to liberally but it is also legitimately used too. When you produce a litter, or a friend produces a litter and there is a standout animal(s) you 'hold' it back. If it looks like the pick of the litter then you 'hold' it back, and sometimes people sell there holdbacks. Not all animals advertised as holdbacks are holdbacks, but generally that term is used by reputable breeders to designate that the animals was simply that an animal with great promise from day one!

Steve and I try to always remember that sometimes you can score great deals and sometimes you will get screwed. For our money I would rather pay the price for an outstanding animals from an outstanding breeder than risk getting screwed.... I just always tell myself when i see those great "christmas sales"...You get what you pay for....

Merry Christmas Everyone~!~
Sincerely,

I was lucky enough to pick up an adult proven male albino for slightly more than a baby albino a couple of weeks ago. It was from a local guy that I know, so I was able to pick it up instead of shipping. He had the ad up for half a day before I responded, so I was surprised it was still available, especially since he is a very reputable dealer. Guess I was just lucky.
