a wierd observation

uroplatusguy Dec 23, 2004 10:46 PM

hey guys i was wondering if you have notice this with corkbarks or any other leaftail for that matter.i was feeding my female corkbark the other night and she was crickets from the ground and she had her two hind feeton a branch and twoi feet on the ground. well to make a long story short , she used her tail in much the same manner as a crested gecko to reach a branch above her and pull herself up with it her tail. the tail fully currled around the brach and even helped support her weight it looked like. this was my first time observing this and i wanted to know if anyone else has observed this. the only reason i post this is because i thought that their taisl were used to help cammoflauge them, for balance to some degree, and store fat supplies during leaner times . any comments or observations would be gratly apreciated.

I've noticed the prehensile tendencies as well...Times when I remove them for observations/medicating they will wrap their tails around my finger (the female especially). I've also noticed the same situation you mentioned, when feeding, if possible, they will try not to completely leave their branch.

I have noticed this same behavior but only with my female cork bark. I have seen her cling to branches with her tail and also when I take her out of the cage to clean it her tail always clings to my fingers.

And I have seen it when U. Guentheri copulates. The mail uses his tail to hold around the female. I guess other species do the same.
