Pink Northern Pine Snake?

PredsFan98 Jul 03, 2003 10:57 AM

Hello,
I have had a couple of Northern Pines now for about a month and a half. The female looks great...She has a nice white back ground color...The male has a off white ground color with pink or orange on him...They are both CB are or not wild cought...She is a little over two feet and he is a little over 3 feet...Is this normal for the male? One more thing...I got these two Pines to breed...How old/big do they need to be to breed them? I have never breed snakes before so I guess I should say I am going to try to breed them...Any good sites on breeding them would be a big help...Thanks...

He looks normal to me. Go to our website if you want breeding info. I have a couple papers there.

eggs a few weeks ago. Del's paper on breeding pituophis which was published in the Chicago Herpetological Society Bulletin this past year and is located on our website should provide you the information you should need for breeding your Northern Pines and/or most all pituophis. Our Northern Pines also have the red or reddish ground color behind the head and going down towards the tail.

Hey Terry, any little Ugmos in the near future???

terryp Jul 03, 2003 05:36 PM

from one of Del's morph bull clutches for a girl friend for UGMO. We're going to see if he can father some clutches like his dad pictured here. The male white bull pictured fathered 4 clutches this year. I'll post a pic of Ugmo shortly.

Are you shooting for 04 Ugmo babies?

terryp Jul 03, 2003 06:37 PM

If not to the hypo, then to another female. Ugmo was ready this year. He's carrying the genes, it just looks like they had a collision on his head. LOL

Poor Ugmo. So often the brunt of "ugly" jokes. What is Ugmo het for?

terryp Jul 04, 2003 09:00 AM

as he did his first year. His color was an almost transparent pink with remnants of his dorsal pattern. His head was funny after awhile. It looked like all the traits he is het for all came together on the top of his head and had this big battle. Del and I sat there looking at him when Del brought him by just after he hatched. No way were we going to sell him or offer him up for that matter. After about a week, Del and I began calling him Ugmo. My wife, Brenda, started getting worried for Ugmo's safety when Del and I started saying, "If we lower Ugmo's temperature to 30 degrees for a couple days that might clear up his head". My wife nabs Ugmo one day and brings him over to our place. I mention to her every once in awhile she owes Del money for the snake. She thinks I'm kidding. About a year later I mention to Brenda that I don't keep pituophis here and if I do, then Ugmo needs a mate. Not long after that Brenda nabs a female hypo bull from one of Del's clutches that hatch. Again, I mention every once in awhile that she owes Del money for Ugmo and the hypo. She chuckles when I say it for some reason. I'll try posting a pic, but don't let Ugmo know because he's self conscious. Ugmo is white sided and het for hypo, amel, white (ask Del about his meaning of white).

That's a nice looking pine. I'm sure the babies will be great looking too. I hope to see some pics of those babies before you sell them! Have a good 4th of July weekend everyone.
