Hey all,
I recently saw an ad for frozen pigs in the feeder section. Has anyone ever bought them and how did it turn out? Should I just stick with rabbits? Anyway, Happy holidays!!!

Hey all,

Well I know a guy who feeds pigs to his big female retic, he has no problems, I would stick to rabbits unless you have one hell of a big burm, or its cheaper for you to buy the pigs. So I would say it is completely based on your own personal preference. If you do decide to go with the pigs, I am interested in how everything works out. Like how fast your snake takes them, and other things like that.

The ad said from 1.5lbs to 50lbs. My snakes are that big I just wondered if they would be a good alternative to rabbits. I'm also wondering how dirty they are.
...
I myself, would just get the guys E-mail address for the future. Until you need very large feeders (over 20-30 pounds), just stick to rabbits if you have a reliable source. As for the pigs being dirty, maybe on the outside (you could clean them if you wanted) but the meat should be fine.

It's funny I looked at the ad again and now it say 100lbs. minimum order. I might have missed that before due to lack of sleep. I dont think I'll be needing 100 lbs. of pigs anytime soon. But with my snake addiction I will need it eventually!
I used pigs for a long time with my burms and retics. Pigs will fatten the snake a lot faster than the rabbit. Pigs are all meat and the rabbits have a lot of undigestable fur.
If you are going to use pigs be prepared for an awful smell and big mess for the first two weeks or so. It takes a while for the snakes stomach to get use to them and they will have horrible diarea for a while. After that, they will be fine and you will notice them get larger faster.
Just thought I would share my experience.
