How do I keep my green tree frog green?

becca75 Dec 24, 2004 09:28 AM

Ok, I’m a very new frog owner. I just bought two green tree frogs and they were green in the store, turned brown when the lady handled them, green when I got them home when they were in their little bag, and then once I put them in their tank they turned brown again. Why do they keep changing color, stress? How can I make sure they stay green?

Frogs change color for a number of reasons. Temperature, humidity, light levels, their surroundings and stress can all play a role in their color. Green tree frogs are often brown or dark green after being moved to a new cage. Give them a little time and double check the temperatures and they will probably brighten up in the future.
