What caused my frog's death?

mcliffor Dec 24, 2004 09:35 AM

When I opened my cage this morning, I found one of my three azureus dead in the entrace of the coconut hut. His back legs were stretched out and his front legs were twisted. All three of the frogs are juveniles which I purchased last summer. This frog was a lot smaller and thinner than the others and didn't seem to be growing as quickly. I ran out of flies last week and wasn't able to get any for until last Tuesday. All the frogs were eating again when I fed them, and I've been feeding them steadily for three days, but is it possible that the frog died of starvation? How would I tell if he died of a disease that could hurt my other frogs? Thanks.

It sounds like a calcium deficiency, from the twisted legs.
What was your supplimention schedule? and hold old are they?

I usually dust my fruit flies with Dendrocare before I feed them to my frogs about half the time. The other frogs seem to have very strong legs. Is it possible that this was a female who was stressed from wrestling and outcompeted for food? I bought the frogs in August, which would make them about five months old. There was a noticable difference in size between this one and the others. Its legs also looked thin and fragile for a few weeks before it died.
