honestly the larger the better. i have a 60L x 30W x 30H
cage that Cages By Design built for me. it's front opening, and the top is wire mesh for air. it's great.
Balls don't relaly dig thin branches, but a big thick one would be good.
I have a hardpacked substrate in mine with two rodent burrows; one hot and one cold plus a few grasses growing. our pastel just loves it.
biuld a larger tank as upir snake could get 4 feet long and none of use like to walk in small circles!
Balls really don't take up much room and spend most of their time in a hide. A good rule of thumb is that they should be able to stretch out if they want: Either once around the tank without overlaping or from corner to corner. You can figure that your ball will get about 4 ft long and go from there. If I remember correctly a 20 gallon tank is about 5 ft around so it would work. Hope this helps.
