My dragon lost his marbles

nootbubbies Dec 24, 2004 07:37 PM

Over the past month my dragon temperment has changed quite drasticaly. He's lost interest in crickets, mealworms, and will only eat moistened food. He will lay around all day long, and then all of the sudden will be up running around the edges of the cage. He will spend 15 minutes scratching at the cage, like he is trying to crawl out. He is also very moody too, I can't hardly take him out of his cage because he just hisses and jumps at me, which he never used to do. He is about 4 years old. Could someone please give me some input?

Thanks and happy holidays

Use both UVA and UVB lighting, 50 gallon tank with a mesh top Feed, mealworms, crickets, and dry (which I moisten) pellets. I use vitamin powder to coat the crickets. I have a rock for him to go under to avoid extra heat/ hide. There is petrified wood so he can get near the top of the cage to bask. Use a water additive to remove chemicals from the water. Never had much success getting him to eat greens/any sorts of veggies. Infrared heat lamp in the evenings, and a regular heat lamp during the day combined with a UVA neon bar. Hope that helps and thanks for your input.

has he Burminated this year?
Last Year?
how long?

are you sure it's a male dragon?

has he ever bred with a femail?

some of what you post sounds a bit like a dragon thats "Ready" to mate and wants to find a mate.

or he is looking to sleep and not happy and looking for a better spot.

as the other post tell us more....
temps( high, low, norm), lights (kind of and hours on / off), history of burmination or lack of same.
weight of dragon also...
and has he gained or lost any in the last weeks?
fat pads on the head, tail and under the legs
are they big and firm or sunken and small?
any vet checks in the last year?

Burmination? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the term. Has never been bred before. I've not changed his cage since he has always seemed happy with the way it's set up. I forgot to mention in my last response that I also use a calcium enriched sand. I have noticed some weight loss though, which I attribute to the loss of interest in crickets and mealworms. Again, thanks for the input and I hope this helps.
