Handling milks..which one is best?

toiletoctopus Dec 24, 2004 09:41 PM

Hi everyone,

Just wondering about milk snakes. It seems from my reading that milks are a little bit more shy than your average cornnake, and I'm wondering which one is least shy and most able to be handled without being bit and musked all of the time. Thanks for your help.

Well,
I would have to saty that baby black milks are trhe best to handle when they are young?or maybe andeans (pretty much the same).
As adults most all trinagulum are the same as far as temperment.

Buy a black or andean and you will be hooked.
Remember that almost all milks calm down in about a year and they make great pets and are pertty pretty.

Take care and have a great x-mas and a very happy new years,

Shannon

Hi. I have a tangerine dream honduran milk. I can tell you when I first got him as a baby he was very high strung with handling. So much to the point I though he would pass out. He is a year and half old now and is much calmer with handling. He has never tried to bit me at all but did musk me a time or two when I first got him.
I hear the black milks are awsome with handling and they do great at cooler temps. I've been wanting to get one. The pueblan babys I've handled at shows were so high strung it was like holding a very wiggly worm. Really turned me off of getting one of those.

lol I must say I found that funny that the snake would get so nervous it would pass out.
I love the way hondos look but hear a bit nervous. I myself am looking into albino nelsons. I already have an Arizona mt king.
I wanted to comment on what you said about Pueblans. I think your so right.
I have two friends both with pueblans from diff parents and both snakes still after a yr. Look like they are going to have a heart attack when handled or pass out lol.
Black milks are great but the color or lack of it isnt for me but their tempermeant is great.

to each is own..i saw an adult black milk at a show in tucson a year or two ago and it was beautiful! most impressive black snake i had seen.

Try a Mexican milk. They're calmer as hatchlings and very laid-back when adults. They're smaller than blacks or Andeans, maxing out at about three feet, so they feed best on hoppers and smaller. They are very beautiful, too, and almost bullet proof. Very easy to care for, Mexican milks do not develop black scale tipping as they age. You can't go wrong with a Mexican. My wife's one, but not a snake

Definitely Guatemalan milksnakes in my opinion (abnorma). Mine is totally tame.

Nelson's are hard to beat - almost as tame as a corn snake as babies and calm down even more as adults.
