Need help, my Albino male has stopped eating.......

JDalbo Dec 25, 2004 11:41 AM

I've had him since around August when he was still a hatchling. He's has always eat well for me, usually every 4-5 days, and got up to around 500 grams. Suddenly though, he shows no interest at all in eating. Its been 3 weeks now and everytime I offer him food he ignores it. I've tried live, frozen/thawed, in cage, out of cage, mice, small rats, and even left him with a freshly killed one in a brown paper bag over night. He had just switched from rat fuzzies to small rats when he stopped eating. Is this common or should I be worried. My other 2 females are eating perfectly fine and are in itentical setups. When should I begin to worry? Thanks for any advice. Joe

Some (even young animals) will stop eating this time of year. All my "04"'s still eat, but a couple will skip meals here & there, but have never refused meals before the winter.

Don't worry, he will eat when he is ready.

If you have a 500g '04 male hatchling, you shouldn't worry about him not eating at all. He has MORE than enough reserves to easily make it through the winter if he needs to. Don't stress it and if you've already got him on rats, DON'T DON'T DON'T revert back to mice just to get him to eat in a moment of weakness. Stick with trying a rat every two weeks and he'll eat when he's hungry. Balls do this all the time; of my 11 holdback hatchlings that I produced last year, 4 of them stopped eating a month or so ago. It's a common occurence. Don't stress it.

my largest "04" girl is 500 grams, with a pinhead, and yes, she could go a very long time without food.
