Risks in breeding?

nha Dec 25, 2004 08:07 PM

Hello and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

I'm considering breeding two of my garters. I have never bred snakes before and I'm concerned about whether there are risks to the snakes when they are bred. Do they get aggressive with each other when breeding? My snakes are housed separately now.

Best wishes,

Nic

I have never seen any aggression between garters, breeding or otherwise. The only problem I've encountered is food-fights, where they definitely prefer a food item already being eaten by another snake to any other food item in the cage. I know breeders
who keep their snakes separated except during breeding, but I keep mine in 1.2 or 2.3 groups and I've never had a problem.
