GOLD DUSTED DAY GECKO NOT EATING HELP!!!!!!!!

aznregulata88 Dec 25, 2004 09:07 PM

I have a Gold Dusted Day Gecko that is about 1 year old. It hasn't eaten a cricket in about 2 weeks maybe more. I try to feed it a tropical fruit nectar mix but am not sure if that works. Occasionally it will lick the nectar off my finger but hasnt in a few days. I mist the tank daily and I give it plenty of hiding and basking areas. I am using a full spectrum light with a dome lamp with a zoo med basking bulb. I also have a big artificial tree trunk with these big fan looking "mushrooms" in the tank so he has alot of space and shelter. I am not sure what the problem is. It is in a 50 gallon sea clear hexagon tank. He just sticks himself to the top of the tank and usually dosent move much unless I try to feed it. It will just run away. Someone please help I dont want the thing to die on me. Email me if pictures will help in assesing the situation.

I don't have experience with gold dusted gex, but all the herps I've ever owned will occasionally go on hunger strikes when the weather gets colder, they sort of semi hibernate (called brumation). I would suggest taking him to a vet just to be safe, especially if his behavior seems otherwise abnormal.
