New Camera for X-mas, Holdback 2004 BRB

Jeff Clark Dec 25, 2004 11:21 PM

I got a Canon A95 digital camera for Christmas. This is one of my 2004 holdback BRBs. This PIC was shot in macro mode and has not been "adjusted" in any way. The snake does not look quite this colorful in my snake room under incandescent lighting. She might look this good outdoors under ideal natural lighting conditions.

>>This is another one of my 2004 holdback BRBs. I kept this one because of the strange big blob bright spots on her sides rather than typical slender crescents. This PIC was also shot in macro mode but without flash and has not been "adjusted" in any way. The snake does look exactly like this in my snake room under incandescent lights.

This is the same snake. This time shot with flash in macro mode and photo easily enhanced with JASC photo editing. Be careful when you see people selling snakes with PICs that seem too pretty to be real.

with enhancements. Thanks for telling us the differences..if we always knew what was done to the pic eventually we could learn to alter how to "read" through the enhancements to form more accurate visualizations. I was hoping for a camera....maybe next year. My mom is really coming around, she gave me money for a new "snake house"! (cage)

I was told "no snakes" for christmas, and no snake racks either. There is always next year, I guess. Or maybe my birthday, which is next month!

Truly beautiful babies. The coloring is so vibrant! It really amazes me. How long have you been breeding? Is it a lot of hard work to get the colors you desire? I admire the sucess you have had (at least from what I have seen in the photos you have posted).

Kudos! ~ Noel

Noel,
...Thank you. My first captive breedings were colubrids in the 1960s. I did not breed Rainbow Boas until 1993. I have picked out and held back the orangest BRBs I could find. In the early 90s it was hard to find really great looking CB ones for sale so I bought quite a few imports. It seems like most litters have a variety of colors in them no matter what the parents look like. I still produce some of them that are just typical looking but every year there are more and more that are the bright orange I like. I sold all of the plainer ones and about half of the bright orange ones this year. I still have 24 2004 babies here that are better looking than any I produced before 1998. I cannot keep all of them but I am waiting awhile before I decide which ones to sell.

Jeff,
After over three years with my Olympus (10X Optical Zoom, 2.1 megapixels)I recently decided to read the manual and found I could adjust the flash. After experimenting I found dimming the flash (on my camera about -1.0) produced the most accurate images. Were those pictures taken with the default setting? They are really beautiful pics of super nice BRB's.

Paul,
...I have not read all the good stuff in the manual yet. Two of these PICs were shot with the flash on in the auto mode and one was shot without flash. Shooting without flash would not have worked like this with my old camera. I will keep playing with this camera and see what I can do with it. I have a remote slave flash and I will see if I can use it to fill the PIC better and get rid of shadows.
