Bearded Dragon

slackajack Dec 26, 2004 01:45 AM

Ok, i've decided

I'm getting a bearded dragon.

Now i have 2 specific questions:

1) (Don't yell) Could i fit 2 bearded's in a 40 gal? or just one? or is 40 gal too small?

2) Can you train them? like as in to sit, or come when they're called?

Thanks in advanced for your help, i've been looking into it because it's my late christmas present, and I'm full excited to get one, Jack

just one,
not yelling but *NEVER* try to put 2 dragons together.
unless it's to breed them.

40 Gal size:

the key is more Square feet than gallons.

for example a "Rule of thumb" for most critters is room to turn around in comfortably and 2 or 3 times the length for room to move or walk. That gives a general *MINIMUM* space for any cirtter.

then you have to ask what this kind of critter would do in the wild. for example an adult iguanua needs about a 10x12 foot room with stuff to climb up on as they live in trees.

a BD is more of a ground dweller that will climb some but not like an iggy does.

so it would like to have room to run / walk and some climbing
I have a not average apt and have found that my bd will stay in a 3x3 foot floor space 90% of the time and is happy.
but does benifit from a good walk around my 1,000 square foot apt. from time to time to work the msucles and have healthy digestion.

Training: some ... it varies by the dragon; some like to be handled; some are less tolerant. let the dragon show you what he will take.
