Could my lil guy,be a lil gal??(and a few other questions)

lilmouthy Dec 26, 2004 06:52 AM

I've had my "lil guy" for nearly six months, and I've just assumed he was a He. Hes still small,so I can't realy tell by looking under neath him. Anyhow, hes always been just a light green in color. Well couple weeks ago,I got Wax worms and meal worms for him. And boy what wonder they've done with him. Brought his color out soo pretty Well About 2 days ago,he got 2 orange stipes, one under each of his black collar, and on his back, hes got orange spots all over towards the top now. And I remember someone posting, that females will get that way, right before mating or egg laying? So does that make my lil guy,a lil gal? Or do males get orange aslo? Maybe here after hubby gets his butt outta bed,I can get him to take some pics of my lizard. I tried taking some with my new camera, but alls i kept getting was light glare. So maybe I can get him to sit still in my hand long enough for some pics.
And I've also noticed that when ever I pick him up,his head will start to twitch. I watch him all day long(I just love that lizard!) and I've never seen him do it,unless I pick him up. And he doesn't do it everytime i pick him up,just some.
One more thing,I hate for him to get bored, looking at the same thing all the time,so I was thinking on redecorating his cage up some. Maybe putting different stuff in there, but do you all think,it might not be good for him? I mean,I don't want to make him nervous switching up on him.
Anyhow,I hope someone can tell me about his sudden change in colors. He is very pretty tho.
Thanks guys!

Your lizard could still be a male even though orange coloratoin has developed. This happens in young males but it will fade away. He seems alittle old for this to happen so I'm not sure.
Check under it's tail and if there is a dark spot on each side of the vent then it's a female.

Sexing can be done very early with most C. collaris.
The C. dickersonae and C. vestiguim are holder until older.

Hope these will help

I'm thinking mine is a C. dickersonae. I was hoping someone could tell me for sure or not. I looked at a website, that had pics of the different collareds and mine looked allot like a dickersonae.
I need to hold him/her up and take a pic under neath.
Anyhow..Thanks!!
