help-I'm unprepared

asla Dec 26, 2004 12:38 PM

Bought an adult bd and has been housed alone here. Moved her to a larger cage yesterday and found 16 eggs this morning. My first bd and don't know what to do. Set up an incubator but no vermiculite so used very fine reptile sand till monday. DO I dare move them again Monday when the store is open? Temp is at 84. Several eggs were collapsing, but seem to be filling out again. I didn't expect this. Any advice is appreciated.

how long have you had her? she could have layed unfertalised eggs, if it was more then 2 months then this is probably the case, how re they in the sand, just on top of underr it a bit, if they are just on top you could put vermiculite on top. if it were me id do my best not to hve to move them, but if you have to, move them asap, the embryo usually attaches to the top within 24 hrs. be sure your girl gets lots of calcium and good food, even if you dont get to hatch the eggs (they are so cute when they are born if you can get them to hatch!) you want to be sure your girl is fine!
good luck!

Has the female been exposed to a male at all that you know of? How long have you had her? If she hasn't the eggs are probably infertile... which is really what I am guessing is going on and why they are colla[sing...... If you do move them.... make sure they don't roll to the side.... put a dot on the top ofd the egg with a sharpie marker so you can tell where the top is and they MUST be placed this way when moved or the phetus will drown.... you can tell if they are gravid or not by cutting a hole in a pice of cardboard and setting the egg on it then holding a flashlight underneath of it... if it is fertile you will see veins in the egg....you shold be able to see veins by the third or fourth day...

Later,
Robert
