If the kid only wants to spend $40, he's going to have to get a normal, but as far as I'm concerned, normals are coolest anyway. You can get normals for $20 from either cornsnakemorphs.com, or cornsnakes.net, but I'm not sure how much shipping is. If shipping puts it over his limit, he's not getting one mail-order. In that case, he'd better go to a reptile show, because pet stores are going to jack the price up pretty high, depending on where you are. I live in the north east, and paid $60 at a pet shop for my normal, but from what I understand, if you live within the cornsnake's range, you can get them cheaper.

I would try to talk him out of buying one. He's have to spend at least that much for a tank, heater, bedding and a hide, not to mention food. Before he purchases a snake he should do some research to see what the snake will need and save up enough money to pay for everything he needs.

Click on Events at the top of the page to see if there are any reptile shows that come to your area. That will get you the best selection at low prices and no $$ for shipping. I saw some decent baby corns at the Ohio show recently for $15. $15 would also have gotten me 50 frozen pinkies. If you don't have a tank, you can get a good Sterilite or Rubbermaid container for less than $10 and put airholes in it with either a drill or a soldering iron or woodburner. Duffy
