Tokaye Gecko Questions

Triad Dec 27, 2004 03:19 PM

My brother's got a tokaye gecko, Sid Vicious (I think it's an appropriate name).

We would like to move him to a bigger terrarium and we need to know how to go about doing so.

He has a hide (one of those rock hides that you put up against the glass and on the outside [its magnetic] there's the other part to the rock, so you can open it up and see where he is).

None of us know how to move him from where he is now.

If anyone can suggest anything to help us round him up and move him we'd all really appreciate it. THANKS in advance.

Probably the easiest way to move it would be to let it crawl into a tube or something (like a paper towel role) and then just moving the tube. Also, it's spelled tokay lol. Good luck movin him.....and don't get bit!!

Thanks (everywhere I go it's "Tokaye".

My brother's chameleon died awhile back (probably begining of 2004) and we have an empty terrarium so we figured we could move him there and give the one he's (he's got 4 pieces of plexi glass in a 55 gallon terrarium separating him and my brothers bearded *don't worry, bearded can't see him, and sid can't see the bearded it's only been like that for about 2 months*) so we're moving him to a bigger tank and letting Draco (the bearded) have the run of the 55.

What's wrong with simply reaching in and grabbing him?

You might try putting a dish towel over him so he can't see; that way he is less likely to run and/or bite, it's a lot easier to pick them up this way.

BTW, your signature says you have 0.3 tokaye (sic), do you really have 3 females all named Sid Vicious? Just wondering.

It's supposed to be 0.0.3 tokay gecko-sid.

1.0-is male
0.1-is female
and I was told that 0.0.3 was unknown.

The towel method works well if youre afraid of getting bitten Be sure to drape it over the Tokays head when doing it so it can't see you then reach in and grab it gently with your other hand keeping its head covered. Remove it gently because if you force it off whatever he is sticking to you will damage his feet.

I'll keep that in mind. I might do that tube thing though.

We're gonna give the old terrarium (sid's new one) another good cleaning and then put him in it sometime this week.
