Thanks go to John Stephenson of Marysville, Calif.
When I was studying the Sharp-tailed Snake a few years back, John showed me a site at Wheatland, Calif. that had a good population of the species. On our way from Oregon to Calif. on the 24th, I stopped at that site and found 8 Sharptails under tins and boards.
On Christmas day across the road from my sister's residence in St. Helena Calif., I observed approximately 100 - 120 Slender Salamanders, 3 Black Salamanders, 3 W. Fence Lizards, and 1 S. Alligator Lizard. The salamanders were active but the lizards were found in a torpid state beneath cover objects.
