Picture of new mali

koashmar Dec 27, 2004 06:29 PM

I just wanted to post a pic I took tonight of my "rescued" mali. He's the one my brother kicked out after redoing his apartment. Imagine all that color not going with the decor!

What do you think? He's fattened up quite a bit in the short time I've had him and his coloring has come out tremendously. He was just a dull blue/brown and hid under his hidespot 24/7. Now, he comes out every day when the lights have been on an hour or so. He climbs up on his basking log and hangs out there for awhile, then he might go grab a bite to eat and waddle around for a minute or so. After that, he parks out in front of his favorite hide and enjoys the day. What a life! He's such a sweetie too. Nothing like my evil BD (also posted pics of him on the BD forum if anyone's interested).

That's one cute mali you got.

You're brothers a fool for gettin rid of him, mali's are one of the coolest most relaxed pets anyone can wish for and they are so much fun.

I have a mali, so does my brother, then I have a saharan (she's sick right now with pneumonia) uromastyx, we both have bearded dragons (his is older) and my leo gecko. A lot of reptiles here in our house and we love each and every one. Although I'd take his animals if he ever got rid of them.

Do you have a name picked out for him yet?

Good Luck and I hope he gains more weight! I'll go check it out on the bd forum (also my brother's bearded, EVIL! ha ha ha).

He's a very handsome lizard! On www.deerfernfarms.com, you can see photos of a variety of Malis to see how yours compares (on whether you think he'll color up). I suspect the yellows will get brighter and the blacks blacker as he ages. Bright yellow feet - hee hee!

Also, he doesn't look underweight to me at all. Photos can be deceptive, I know, so use your judgement. But I think he looks very healthy.

Honestly? I don't know - I haven't kept them that long. But what I've gathered from reading care sheets and forums is that they continue to get darker as they age. But I could certainly be wrong.
