Well basically.........look at the pic. You see the black 90 degree elbow, the mist comes out of there and falls upon the cages, thus raising humidity. I have to stress this; this is not a substitute for misting. Although the water vapor does eventually condese on the leave, i think you should still mist.

The humidifier is a holmes 485 ultrasonic that i bought on ebay. Great price on ebay.

?? What made you chose doing this over buying a misting system or a fogger? Just wondering. I have a misting system, but your method looks just as good and a lot cheaper. I just like to know why people make their choices because maybe they see something or understand something that I don't. :0) just curious!

Hi Juanita,

I got such mixed opinions on the misters and couldn;t decide what to go with. I find this to work quite well. A good cool mist humidifier will put out a very nice fog. So long as the opening is round you can easily fit it with pvc pipe from HD, Lowe's, etc. just keep it clean. I wash it with bleach weekly (pipe and humidifier).

Luna will sit on her branch just below where I have it set and she will look up "asking" me to turn it on. Or if she is elsewhere in the cage she will make a dash for it as soon as she sees the fog. SHE certainly knows how dry it is here! Now if she would just lay these #$%^&* eggs! ;/

Hi Lele,

Thanks for the response. I have had my mister for about a year, and never had any problems with it. I do have cool mist humidifer next to the tanks. I keep it on full time now because I have been using my heaters more now in the winter. But I saw the first one that you built, then I saw the one that Giantsfan24 built and thought I might have missed out on something good! I heard bad things about foggers so I'll never use one of them, but your ideas seem pretty cool and interesting!
I think you should put Luna on a leash and walk her around the block, that might speed up the labor process! Hey it worked on my sister!! What did the vet say? Chloe is getting huge too, she's not due for another 2 weeks, so I'll be in your shoe's here soon! I'm taking her in for an xray and Stitch in for a weight check on Thursday.

HI Juanita, This is Stitch's ex mom! I really miss the little guy. How has he adjusted to the move? I was going to e-mail you and ask but figured you were bonding. I just realized it was you when I saw you post about Chloe.
Is Stitch going to be a Daddy? Have you posted any pics of him?
I have not been on the forum too much lately because I have been getting over the Flu.
Luna is Stitch's sister from the same clutch and actually and I got to meet Lele when she came to FL last year.

There is no single one on the market. This and variations on it are home made using an ultrasonic room humidifier, some pvc water pipe and fittings, and some ingenuity. Ultrasonic humidifiers create a fine fog of water vapor usually through a spout on top of the water tank. You can remove the spout and put pvc water pipe in its place, and basically direct the fog into or on top of your cham cage. So, you want to look for a humidifier that has a removable spout, measure the diameter of the opening, and find pipe to fit it snugly. Then piece together pipe sections and fitting that will let you direct the fog where you want it. I usually run a length of pipe across the whole top of the cage through an opening in the screen so it can fog the whole cage through a series of holes drilled in the pipe. My cages are pretty large, so this is up to you. Then you control the humidifier by a multiple setting appliance timer so you can create cycles of fog and drying during a 24 hour period. Yes, you will still need to spray for drinking, but the cham will not dehydrate as fast if the air humidity is maintained by this fogger system. This is a really great thing for cham cages!

neat! Easy and cheap. My one comment is that I have found that the water in the humidifier can get pretty rank in just a day. I am in NH so we are talking very dry air, but I think b/c the piping keeps the moisture confined it can easily produce bacteria/mold, etc. I am only going by the smell in my humidifier. At night, when I cover Luna's cage I take out the pipe and lay it so that it can dry out over night.

I would NOT let the pipe stay in place for more than a day. Take a sniff.
