I know this isn't the right place to post this but since there isn't really anywhere to lodge a complaint this will have to do.
Why have the forums been so slow lately?
I mean SLLLOOOOWWWWW and I have cable.
It isn't worth coming to Kingsnake if you have to wait over five minutes just to have a forum page come up.
If there is a problem that you (Kingsnake) have found and are working to fix then you should inform us of the problem and when it will/should be fixed.

Actually, we have had a total of three complaints about this, all of them today. BUT.... I'm also experiencing this. As far as I can tell, all the four users having this problem are using comcast. Is anyone NOT using comcast having this problem?

Draybar, do you know how to trace the route your ISP is using to connect to kingsnake.com? Because there is no slowdown on the servers themselves, so we can't fix anything on our end. I traced my route and did find a slowdown on a few hops using Time Warner, although nothing so big it should have slowed me down THAT much.

If you are using a Windows system, go to the start menu and type in "command" without the quotation marks, to open up a DOS prompt window. Then when it's ready, type "tracert kingsnake.com" without the quotation marks, and then hit enter.

When it's done, copy and paste the whole thing (how you do this will vary from OS to OS, but on mine, I click on the edit menu, then on "select all," then click on the edit menu again and then on copy), and paste it into an email and send it to me here:

www.pethobbyist.com/phcontact/index.php?ph=phchristy

If anyone else is having this same problem, whether on comcast or not, please let me know - and it would help me if you could tell me your ISP plus what region of the country (or world) you're connecting from. And if you could trace your route and send it to me, that would be even better. We'll see what we can figure out.

Again, the slowdown is NOT on our servers, so we can't fix it... nothing is broken. But there does appear to be a problem upstream of us. Normally when we have a major problem we get hundreds of complaints, and for this one we have only three, so I'm assuming this is not affecting a large number of folks. But it's extremely annoying - I agree!

I'm on AOL and it has been slow....even for AOL. I'm not into all that e-lingo you talked about. All I know Kingsnake.com used to be faster but lately it has been quite slow for me too. I'm in Arizona, USA.

I live in Minnesota and have a local DSL line, and it has been slower than molasses the past couple days.

It's a little better today.

Look under "Chit-Chat", that is where I originally started it...don't ask me why.

I would have to disagree with you (PHChristy) on your assesment as the problem seems to be much further reaching than COMCAST.

I am up at 0430 every morning getting ready for work and this website is the first place I hit with my full cup-o-joe and it still lags, though not as bad.

I do wish you the very best of luck in correcting the "ghosts in the machine". I've always loved Kingsnake.com!!

Thanks,

Hello, my name is Skeeter, and I am a Kingsnake.com addict....LOL, Russ, I also get up at 4 friggin' 30 every morning to get ready for work and sit here with my big ol' mug of coffee (another addiction, I'm afraid) catching up on all the "gossip". I am on Comcast, and it had been slow lately, but some sites were much worse than Kingsnake and it has gotten better, at least today. Until that caffeine gets circulating around the bloodstream real good I'm not the most patient person in the world and tend to get a wee bit irate....not a pretty picture (although to be perfectly honest, I'm probably not a treat to behold that early in the day anyhow!). Kinda fun to find out I'm not alone....Have a happy herping New Year!

I agree with Kingsnake being slow. I have Time Warner Road Runner in North Carolina.

janome Dec 29, 2004 03:01 AM

this morning and it was much faster. maybe its just the time of day and how many people are on it??

RussBates Dec 29, 2004 05:35 PM

every other site you visited at the same time ran slowly, then one could deduct that the ISP was clogged with traffic but that is not the case at all. I started another thread about this on Cornsnake forums under "Chit-Chat" if you are interested in what others had to say.

Thanks to everyone who helped troubleshoot this - we were able to locate a problem, not on our servers, and get it resolved. I am no longer having any problems with a slowdown, and we have no new reports.

While all the first people who complained, and I, are accessing via Comcast, after I asked I got several slowness reports from non-Comcast users. So that was just a coincidence that momentarily led me astray. <G>

In the future, the best and fastest way to report problems is not to use the forums but to email me, either using the contact form or the Feedback button on main forum index page.

Again, thanks to all who helped with information, route tracing, etc. Much appreciated!
