Eastern Black Kings (L. g. nigra)

Brad_Lee Dec 27, 2004 09:53 PM

I would be interested in hearing from locality breeders/collectors of the Eastern Black Kingsnake. Particularly those locales that are not very common in collections such as West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee and Indiana. If you would rather discuss with me via E-mail, please send to: BLB1029@cs.com

Sorry Brad, I just couldn't resist an opportunity to post another pic of a nigra.
This one from Edmonson county KY. I think its great that there are those like you that find this almost forgotten subspecies of king snake interesting. I would be very interested in seeing some pics from other locals. The king in the pic I estimate to be around 5' long. This year we will be prepared and will be taking tubes with us to take accurate field measurements. I just hope I see this big boy again.
Good luck in your search!

Phil,
Thanks for the reply. I think the Edmonson Cty., Kentucky Eastern Black kings are a beautiful example of nigra. Certainly one of the more stunning color phases that I have seen thus far. I hope to make it to Kentucky this year to obtain a pair of these. Keep those pictures coming. Brad
