Eastern Black Kings (L.g. nigra).

Brad_Lee Dec 27, 2004 09:55 PM

I would be interested in hearing from locality breeders/collectors of the Eastern Black Kingsnake. Particularly those locales that are not very common in collections such as West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee and Indiana. If you would rather discuss with me via E-mail, please send to: BLB1029@cs.com

Hi Brad,
What would you like to know? In my limited experience with Indiana nigra(from around the Derby area), there were many abandoned farms that held ideal sites for this subspecies. Most specimens were very black with just a few flecks of white around the face and belly. Easy to breed, we had several females lay between 15-and 22 eggs every year. But, IMHO, the neatest snakes were the intergrade syspila/triangulum found very near the same areas as the nigra. Lots of orange banding, very cool!
Best...
Jim
