Some general mali questions

koashmar Dec 28, 2004 08:53 AM

These are all pertaining to mali uromastyx...

What is the average life span?

I don't have anything to weigh him, but can someone show me a picture of their mali (from the top) of what a good weight is?

I'd also love to see a picture of what a normal, healthy male looks like. Mine has gotten significantly more colorful in just a short period of time. I'm wondering if he's done, or if it'll only get better.

Does washed playsand stink more than reptisand? Currently he's on reptisand (pricey!!) and god knows how long it was between changes at my brothers house. I sifted regularaly when I was over there, but never changed it. It doesn't stink even a little. The reason I ask if playsand stinks is because I had my BD on it for a short period of time (couple weeks, max) and it reeked! Never again. There were many times I walked in that room and thought one of my german shepherds had pooped, even though they wouldn't dare go in the house. Was it just the beardie or is it something about what they do with reptisand? I'm willing to pay the high price if it keeps the smell away.

I think that's it for now...thanks in advance.

Well first of all my male mali was sick and he is all better and gaining weight. He at this time is 416 grams and gaining. I don't know what a good weight is but he is looking fat. As for the washed playsand well I have it in my tank since July and there is NO smell. I clean the tank (sifting the poop and food) every night and it is clean and has no smell. I hope this helps. Please post a picture of your mali soon.

in his general body shape. Yours looks much longer and leaner. Mine looks sorta like a hotdog on stubby limbs...not necessarily in a bad way, but now I'm worried as I'm going through everyone's uromastyx pics. Is it just the angle of your shots vs. mine? I never see him up and alert like that. When he moves, it's more like a pregnant woman's waddle than a "walk."

I've only had "custody" of him for a couple weeks - will this body shape change after all that neglect? He was owned from babyhood on to 4 yrs by someone else, then went to my brother for 2 yrs, and now to me. His final home. I don't know how he survived all this time. They must be one seriously hardy animal. Not to mention he's tame as can be and he was hardly handed by my brother.
