cuttle bone

rubymaser Dec 28, 2004 10:02 AM

I have been feeding my turtles cuttle bone for years, and I just read something about removing the backing. What does this mean? How do you do this, without the bone falling apart? Is it sold anywhere with the backing already removed??

Thanks!!

Soaking the whole cuttlebone in water for a couple of hours makes removing the backing a bit easier. Be sure to keep your eyes closed or wear glasses because the chips fly! I use the edge of a paring knife, usually in front of the TV since both are relatively mindless activities!

Not that I've ever found.

If you've been feeding the cuttlebone for years it wouldnt matter if you took it off or not. Do yours eat the backing, I dont think it would matter if they did.
