I have done it a few ways. I have drilled a hole in the cork big enough for the roots to go through. But do it at an angle so the plant stays up. I have siliconed them to it. Just glob a bunch of silicone on the side of the hard root area you want attached and hide the silicone and root with some moss. Then just stick it on and use something to hold it in place until the silicone cures. You can also use fishing line, but it is hard to do and doesn't real support that well.

I have a few neo fireballs that have pups (around 1" in diameter)shooting off from stems from the main plant. How do you know when it is ok to cut these smaller ones off to start new plants? Is there a size reqirement for them to be able to survive w/o the mother plant?

The general rule of thumb is that they need to be 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the mother plant. Eventually the mother plant will die off, so you might want to leave one of the pups attached. Just so you don't end up with a bare spot later on.

Good idea. While we're still on the subject of broms, how much water does Vriesea Racinae hold?

You're welcome. It does not hold a whole lot, but it's a cool little plant. They are only 3-4 inches when mature.

well i attached me vrisera elles to my tree fern back ground with silicon then i put moss around it to help keep it moist. then i took some fishing line and tied it around the brom extrentions (i dont know the scitenfic name just where it fans out) to support it. i have had them for just about a month. i had it angled so the the from was at a 90o angle to the soil. 3 weeks later it rooted itself into the tree fern and is now standing nearly vertical.
the raciene doesnt hold much water it is a lot smaller then i thought. really cool plant.
