Blood/Ball Python hybrid???

Aprylla Jul 03, 2003 01:54 PM

I'm new to this forum, but not new to the reptile community. I have owned and kept blood pythons for several years. Am I just behind the times and missed the time when a blood python and a ball python were bred and created an unusual hybrid? I just found these "blood ball" for lack of a better term on a breeder's website with pics and all. Very unusual looking snakes. Is this a common thing now? I think I actually want one when the price drops to a reasonable (affordable) amount.

If anyone wants to see this site let me know and I'll post it. At first I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't.

Copy and paste that and it will take you directly to the page. I just went there again myself and noticed that the webpage was last updated in 2000....? I think I'm going to e-mail these folks and see if they are still breeding these things.

I have tried a hundred times to contact these people to see if it was true and I have never gotten a reply back, not one.

I have no reason to doubt it... burm/retic crosses are getting common, so I don't really see a reason why curtus/regius crosses would be impossible.

Bateaters are not that hard to breed because they are about the same size. BUT bloods are a LOT heavier than balls when full grown. That is a really nice looking snake, and deffinetly has characteristics of bloods and balls. Lookes like a Blood head, ball body, and mixed coloration.

I would love to see the site I have actually been thinking about that type of morph. I dont think it is common because this is the first I have heard of it actually being done. I would be very interested in seeing the pics so please post the website or email me the link or address.
