I was reading the post from the guy from the UK. And someonse was talking about UTH. Do you guys thinks its best to have one? I have never had one just the red heat bulbs for the tanks. My 20g tank with winky in is usually 88-89 degrees in it and he seems fine and his poop is normal too, even though he goes on top of his log house lol. Easiers cleaning for me lol. I dont have one for ally 10g tank either should I go grab a few and what size?

The overhead light will work fine and its sounds like you have yours set up right. Leos though like to lay on their heat source and absorb it thru their belly. A uth works much better for this. Leos also dont like light, though you can use a red heat bulb. I've replaced many a bulbs on my Tokay tanks and never have had a prob with a UTH. A UTH shouldn't cover more than 1/3 of the bottom of the tank. With a UTH you need to use some kind of reostat to control the temp or adjust the substate thickness so it don't get to hot. I've found for me its seems the humid hide works better with the heat coming up thru it rather than down into it. Hope this helps some.

I currently use three of them and they are great...my leos love to lie over them with their bellies pressed to the ground. They also heat up the hides really well on the warm side. For a 10 gallon tank, I suggest a T Rex "mini" heat pad and for a 20 gallon long, I use 2 10 gallon sized UTHs...all of them are on rheostats.
