moldy toad?...................

BIG DONNIE BRASC Dec 28, 2004 03:58 PM

I found a toad in a parking lot a few months ago when the weather had suddenly turned VERY cold. It could hardly move, and it was rapidly getting colder.
I took the little fella home and placed it in a 10 gal tank with some mossy soil, and some areas of varying wetness / dryness, and temp gradients.
The toad was doing really well, until unbeknownst to be the tank sprung a leak and all the water drained out.
I went to check on the normaly FAT little toad, and instead found a shriveled up prune of a critter about 1/4 it's usual size.
I imediately dropped him into some water, and crossed my fingers.
The next day.....back to normal size and looked just fine. He did shed almost immediately after.
NOW......fast forward about a month, and I have dropped the temps to simulate "winter". I checked on toadster yesterday and everything looked fine, except he has some white patches around his head!? They kind of look like mold.
Any ideas?
I will take a pict and post it tomorrow, until then, here he is soon after his / her rehydration!

If it looks like little patches of white cotton or fuzz it could be a fungal infection and may need medical attention. To locate a veterinarian near you see www.arav.org or www.herpvetconnection.com You might also be able to take it to an emergency vet clinic that treats wild animals for free. Good luck,
