Burnt PVC technique

athos_76 Dec 28, 2004 09:05 PM

Okay, I just built a PVC jungle gym for both of my snakes... How do I go about getting the wood branch look with burning the pvc? Are there any dangers to it? Anyone?

dont inhale the fumes as you burn the pvc, they are toxic. other than that just standard torch safety. Also... what you may not realize is that pvc holds its heat for a longgg time. so dont burn yourself. then when you're done scrub it with a scotch brite pad and some dawn soap.

oh.. and you want to know how to do it... didnt read that part my bad lol.

so you have already built it usually you torch it before you build it. because as you heat it you can twist the pipe and make it look more like a gnarled branch. just take a propane torch and hold it closer to the pipe go in whatever pattern you want, it will burn and discolor it. very easy.

This website explains the process. Just scroll down near the bottom of the the page.

Also, as the other poster noted, do not inhale the fumes as you are scorching the PVC. Do it outside and be mindful of the wind direction.
