my 2 beardies

radase Dec 28, 2004 11:04 PM

Drako is 2 years old & my new one is 6 months old. I have a male & a female. When can I put them in the same cage?

Ideally, never. With their age/size difference and with the male being the larger one, it's most likely that he will want to dominate her. Either he will want to breed with her, which causes females a lot of stress, or he will fight her. Two males should never be placed together, and two females should rarely be placed together, as long as they get along and are in a large enough tank. If you are worried about space for the cages, I've heard of people putting in a divider in a very large tank, but in this case I would put one in that they cannot see through. If I misunderstood you or if anyone else disagrees please tell me, this is just what I've learned from seeing other threads.

the female is the bigger one (we thought she was a male when we named her) How big of a tank should I get to divide it. I guess I need sugestions on Tanks. They were my husbands hobby & he died last year. I am still trying to learn 1/2 of what he knew.

Sorry for your loss.

Now as to tanks, I'd suggest since a full grown bearded needs at LEAST a 55 gallon tank, you might want to see if any pet store near you carries 100 gallon tanks and up. I suggest at least a 110 gallon since it gives both bearded's 55 gallons to run around in.

If you don't find a cheap enough price, I know that some people got a 125 gallon tank at a reptile show for about $60. If you want to look up shows http://www.kingsnake.com/events.html there's the link. It lists all the reptile shows for 2005.

I wish you the best of luck with your little beardeds (also my brother named his female dragon Draco).

For tanks I have an idea to make a really neat tank, if you have time and are willing to make it. At http://www.morion.com/teo/english/rockwall-cage/frame-cage.html there's directions on how to make a full cage with a rock wall, so maybe you could just turn the rockwall into a divider. Just an idea.
