Pastels getting brighter?

jmartin104 Dec 29, 2004 07:04 AM

I've read many posts on pastels fading as they get older, but do some get brighter as they age? I received a pastel last year (hatchling) that barely looked like a pastel. But with each shed she gets progressively brighter and today is clearly a pastel. If this continues, she will be stunning as an adult.

Mine seem to get brighter and brighter up to about the first nine months to a year. After that they start to fade.

Good luck,

Christy

About what weight do pastels seem to peak in brightness at?

Is it true that ghosts just keep getting brighter or do they also have an optimal weight for appearance?

Not sure, but she is 270 grams.

when we watch them so much we don't notice them fading gradually as they come closer to a shed and as they are already wonderful looking they look as if they were just hatched after a shed. I have been thinking the same thing but I beleive its only natural for any snake to fade with age. Most do, not all. My pastels have kept their brightness for the most partbut they are only 700g and 800g. I'm sure as they grow they will fade a bit also. Maybe you found a line that won't, who knows. Good luck!

Suggestion: Start to take pictures of your pastel in the same light, surroundings with the same camera every week or two. Mark the date and do it for a couple of months. I do it with my two pastels and a weird girl of mine and have a log on my computer. Its kind of cool to see the changes.

In this picture, you can clearly see a difference. When I first received this pastel, it looked almost like the other one. I had to take it to a friend to confirm it was, indeed, a pastel. She's 270 grams (slow starter) and about 6 months old.
