Uromastyx geyri

JOSTA Dec 29, 2004 08:49 AM

Does anyone out there know much on this species? I am looking into getting a couple of CB babies. I want to know how long it takes them to reach sexual maturity. Anyone? Also, how do you sex them? etc....

Uromastyx typically reach maturity in the wild in about 4 years. Genuine CB geyri will be difficult to find especially this time of year. Very few are bred but thousands are imported. Many wild-caughts end up falsely labeled as CB, even sometimes innocently by resellers who simply take the word of the wholesaler. It would be wise to check out the reputation of the seller before you buy any uromastyx.

How would I be able to find out if they are a reputable breeder? I got their name from "The Uromastyx Home Page" and they do have references.

i know lots of people have been happy with deerfernfarms.com and urotopia.com and they are sponsers of the uromastyx page. i am not sure if pro-exotics breeds them to sell them or if they are just working with them right now, but they have a nice webpage too. all three have some great info on them

Uromastyx geyri are a wonderful species to work with! I successfully bred them last season for the first time ever in Canada!(so I've been told.)My female produced 16 eggs and 15 healthy babies emerged! The father is yellow phase the mother is orange. Anyway, They are awsome creatures! You asked about sexing them, as adults I find if they aren't that hard to sex. The males tend to be larger and more brightly coloured. The males head tends to be larger than the females.
Males usually have larger femoral pores that secrete a hard waxy substance during the breeding season.
Good luck!

Congrats on your successful babies!!

Looking at my two, there's no way I could mistake the genders.
