Question before purchase

digiport Dec 29, 2004 08:58 AM

Ok so Ive been in this serious debate about a mali or a bearded and I think Im leaning more towards the bearded. They dont require quite the temp grade malis do and it seems they can be handled more frequently without hurting or stressing them too much.

My questions are as follows:
1) On avg how many crickets will he be eating a week?
2) Can I go with more vegetation than crickets and be ok? Like 50/50 and would I be able to maybe do 1 week crickets 1 week greens and alternate like that?
3) Would an enclosure consisting of dimensions 18deep 23high 4feet wide be ok for the bearded his whole life?
4) Will it get the paper for me in the morning :P

1)If you get a baby, the baby needs crickets every day, at least once a day if not two times every day. About 10 pinhead crickets once a day, if not twice a day.

2) When a bearded has past it's first year it needs less crickets because it is not growing as fast and then you can give it more and more greens. But to be on the safe side crickets can be given at least 2 times every week.

3) That should be a big enough enclosure for a bearded it's whole life.

4) No it will not get the paper for you, you need a dog for that.

Also I noticed you said you were debating between a mali and a bearded, well I have a mali, and I also take care of my brothers and they are real laid back. They have never stressed when we picked them up. Although when we pick up Draco (my brothers bearded) she always stresses out and we have to put her back.

Mali's and beardeds need ABOUT the same amount of heat. Mali's need more they need 120-125 and 85 at night (that's the lowest the tank can go at any given time is 85 degrees Farenheit).

If you want to know more about mali's kingsnake has a uromastyx forum: http://forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?page=1&catid=59 I'm on here along with a lot of other good people who own beardeds and malis.
