Cricket Amount

Hi. Well my new baby is settling in VERY well!! He is basking right now after quite a few crickets!! I was wondering, how many crickets per feeding (2x a day) should I be feeding him? He is just over 2 months old (born in October) and this morning when I fed him he ate 20 crickets!! He didnt even stop to breath!! haha. I would put about 1-2 in at a time and let him get those then put 1-2 more in and he'd run after those!! He never missed a single one!! Is that too many for one sitting? He also slept in his little cave thing last night too!! I put it in at night so the crix couldnt get in it and I had to put him by the opening and he went right in!! Today Im giong to be picking up some endive, escarole, and either collard, mustard, or turnip greens for him. What else is good for him to eat as a daily thing (Veggie/greens wise)? Thanks
Meghan

Good job, sounds like you've got it covered pretty well. No, that's not too many. The general rule is as many as they will eat in 10 minutes but with giveing 1-2 at a time I'd just go until he's not hungry anymore. Check out www.beautifuldragons.com for a great list of foods and how they rate.

Hi Sean,
The reason I gave 1-2 at a time is because I have a 60 gallon tank sectioned off with cardboard and the crickets will climb up it and find little areas to get into the other side. So I made it a little easier but I would put the crickets in different spots each time so they weren't just right in fron of him each time lol. Also when is a good age to switch to sand? He is on paper towels right now (which are fine with me) but I want to switch to sand when he is the right age. Thanks
Meghan

I'd wait until he is at least 12" long if your going to use sand. By that age they are less likely to eat it and it is more likely to pass through if they do. There is always a risk of impaction if you use sand but waiting until they're a little bigger before you put them on it helps minimize it.
